Improving load-cell calibration

Improving load-cell calibration

Calibrating the load-cells faster and much easier at the TLP Snorre A. Commissioned by Statoil, Holmatro supplied 536 ton cylinders.

Commissioned by: Statoil
Location: TLP Snorre A, North Sea

Situation

The Snorre oil field is located in the North Sea, 200 km off the Norwegian coast. One of the platforms, Snorre A, is anchored (TLP) to the seabed with steel cables. In order to retain, measure and monitor the pre-tensioning of the cables, each leg of the platform are fitted with load-cells. These load-cells need to be periodically calibrated. Then the weight of the platform must be taken off the load-cells.

Challenge

The difficult conditions on the oil platform meant that the cylinders and accompanying products had to meet an enormous raft of requirements.

Solution

Holmatro supplied 64 cylinders, each with a capacity of 536 tons, to the tension-leg platform of (TLP) Snorre A. Besides the cylinders, the corresponding control and storage for the hydraulic system was also delivered. And the required documentation was drawn up in line with the legal requirements for the offshore platform.
