Rescuers, by nature, have an unrelenting thirst for knowledge and are constantly seeking to improve their skills and understanding of key concepts. Holmatro Rescue Experience presents the latest, most relevant, research based information that will promote active discussion on a wide range of subjects, relating to technical and medical rescue as well as the latest tools and equipment.
The days are a mix of keynote presentations and interactive demonstrations including discussion on current issues. The aim of the event is to share knowledge and debate issues that affect today’s rescuers. We truly believe that the most important thing about knowledge is passing it on.
We are privileged to have a truly international team of keynote speakers and presenters that include experts in technical and medical rescue who have practiced all over the world.
Please find below an overview of the keynote speakers and presenters at the events in Melbourne and Tasmania.
Ian was a member of UK Fire and Rescue Service for 19 years and specialized in vehicle extrication, heavy rescue and trauma care. He was an assessor for World Rescue Organisation and through his work with Holmatro, has visited nearly 90 countries in the last four years giving him a truly global view on technical and medical rescue. He is the author of Vehicle Extrication Techniques and he works closely with Holmatro’s research and development department developing new tools and concepts.
Tim is a Rural Procedural Doctor working in private practice on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. His interests include Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Anaesthetics, Human Factors & the use of 'guerilla sim' for in situ training. He is also an avid user & creator of #FOAMed content, aiming to help rural doctors maintain their expertise across disciplines & help them to deliver "quality care, out there". His mission is to help demystify critical illness for the rural team via delivery of #FOAMed asynchronous online information sharing, as well formal courses such as ETMcourse, Critically Ill Airway and rural in situ sim. Tim runs blogs at KIdocs.org & RuralDoctors.Net, both sites affiliated with the smacc conferences (Sydney 2013, Gold Coast 2014, Chicago 2015 - smacc.net.au).
Kris spent nearly 13 years in the Australian Defence Force as part of the Special Investigation Branch of the Military Police, after leaving the Army he joined the Victoria State Emergency Service as a volunteer rescuer and shortly thereafter also the Country Fire Authority as volunteer fire fighter. Four years ago he took on a full time position with the Victoria State Emergency Service where he is an instructor in many and varied disciplines of rescue and support tasks such as boat rescue, search and rescue as well as road crash rescue. Kris has international training experience and has recently returned from Indonesia where he delivered extrication training to local fire brigades in Jakarta. He also runs the road rescue extrication blog Extrication Matters where his aim is to try to increase the “mental toolbox” of road rescuers by providing a professional education platform to share that ever-critical knowledge of road rescue.
Joff has spent the last 12 years as a passionate, determined and innovative career firefighter with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade in Melbourne and volunteer firefighter with the South Australian Country Fire Service and Country Fire Authority, Victoria. He has dedicated many years to becoming a specialist in rescue focusing on how we as first responders can deliver a high standard in extrication and the integration between technical and medical areas of rescue. Through the emergency services foundation scholarship in Victoria he researched the topic "Rapid extrication of time critical patients involved in motor vehicle accidents". This gave him the opportunity to work alongside the Norwegian Air Ambulance, Fire and Rescue Services in the United Kingdom and Holmatro in the Netherlands. He has also gained further experience as a technical assessor with the Australasian Road Rescue Organization (ARRO).
Craig brings over 15 years of fire and rescue industry experience with key strengths in sales, technical support and training.
