Holmatro is worldwide known for its hydraulic cutting tools. Our Industrial Cutting Tools are specially designed for continuous use in a heavy-duty environment, with a strong focus on user safety and ergonomics.
At GVB Main Rail Workshop (formerly known as the Main Tram Workshop), significant maintenance, overhauls, and major repairs are conducted on Amsterdam's tram and metro equipment. This facility was constructed and operationalized in 1996, replacing the antiquated Central Workshop located in Remise Tollensstraat, which dates back to 1902.
The recycling company in charge of waste management for our client, GVB, made a specific inquiry regarding the folding bellows of the tram; the accordion-like component connecting two tram carriages. They're exploring the possibility of delivering these parts in smaller segments, as their current dimensions, approximately 3m x 3m, surpass their processing capabilities.
For several years, Holmatro Industrial Equipment has been responsible for the annual certifications of all high-pressure hydraulic (lifting) tools and rerailing equipment for GVB. During our yearly onsite testing, discussions emerged between GVB staff and our service technician regarding the potential to divide these folding bellows into smaller pieces. The tools coordinator requested an onsite demonstration using our range of industrial cutters for this new application.
Following thorough discussions and a demonstration, we have identified the optimal combination of cutting force, blade opening, and user-friendly ergonomics for recycling the folding bellows. Using our battery-operated cutter BCU 10 A 30, these large 3m x 3m parts can be efficiently cut into smaller segments. This enables easy disposal into the recycling bin and transportation to the recycling company, requiring only eight cuts in total within a few minutes.
Regillio: “I like this cutter; it's so much easier and safer. The best part is, I don't have to go to the gym anymore.”
